Call for Mental Health Services

More than thirty years ago, my wife Lois and I gave our very first donation to Hanna Center. In the decades since that first gift, so many things have changed, but our reason for supporting this amazing place has not:
We believe no child should ever feel alone.

I lost my mother when I was 18 months old, and Lois lost hers when she was 3. We both grew up without what most people would call a “normal” childhood, and that shaped us—not just as individuals, but as future philanthropists.
When we learned about Hanna Center, getting involved just made sense.
We knew what it was like to live without the support, stability, and trusting adult relationships Hanna provides.
Over the years, Iʼve seen Hanna grow and change. As many of us know, Hanna used to be a school for “troubled boys,” but it’s now expanded into something so much bigger—a place that provides all kinds of care, not just education. That increase in services has been incredible to see. I’m so proud to know that, in our small way, we’ve helped make it happen.
Our support didn’t just keep the lights on; it ensured the young people Hanna serves have what they need to move forward in life.
They have more confidence, more tools for success, and, perhaps most important of all, the knowledge that they have people in their corners rooting for them, no matter what.
My relationship with Hanna Center feels particularly poignant now because Lois, my partner in everything, is in poor health. As a nurse, Lois spent her career caring for others, especially children.
Her compassion, love, and endless generosity are a daily inspiration to me, and as I write to you now, I hope they will inspire you to carry on her work by helping to ensure no child ever feels alone.
After 30 years, our relationship with Hanna Center isn’t just about making yearly contributions—it’s become a part of our life and our legacy. When I look back, I know the support Lois and I have given will carry on long after we’re gone. It will help kids we’ve never met, who will never even know our names.
But they’ll be better off because Hanna was there for them, and so were we.
