A Healing-Centered Path for Newcomer Youth
A Healing-Centered Path for Newcomer Youth
A culturally rooted, trauma-informed program supporting Spanish-speaking newcomer youth through healing, connection, and leadership development.
Camino Nuevo is a school-year-long process group created by Hanna Center to serve Spanish-speaking newcomer youth, ages 14–18. The program responds to the realities of unaccompanied minors and recently arrived youth navigating trauma, migration, and isolation.
Grounded in healing justice, Camino Nuevo creates a safe and culturally affirming space where participants can explore identity, practice resilience, and celebrate cultural roots. Through weekly sessions delivered entirely in Spanish, youth build emotional skills, cultural pride, and leadership capacity. Guided by trained facilitators, participants gain tools for connection, self-expression, and advocacy that extend well beyond the classroom.

Camino Nuevo follows five core themes, offered across three academic quarters:
Each weekly session includes 75–90 minutes of core learning plus reflection, tutoring, or wellness support.
Healing Justice
Centering personal and collective healing
Cultural Grounding
Storytelling, food, music, ritual
Somatic Practices
Movement, breath, grounding techniques
Youth Voice
Embedded in facilitation and program design
Newcomer youth often face cultural isolation, trauma, and systemic barriers. Camino Nuevo meets these young people where they are—providing safety, connection, and community as the foundation for growth. From this base, participants gain the confidence and leadership skills to step into their futures with resilience and pride.
